Did you know you can estimate how many sales any eBook or print book on Amazon is currently selling just by looking at its listing on Amazon?
All you have to do is find the Amazon Sales Rank for any eBook or print book on Amazon and type that number in to our simple Amazon Book Sales Calculator below.
Note: Make sure not to include any commas or spaces when you type in the BSR (Amazon Best Seller Rank) in order to calculate how many sales are needed.

How to Use Our Amazon Book Sales Calculator
Let me show you a quick example of how to find the Amazon Bestseller Ranking for any book on Amazon so you can use the sales calculator.
Here’s the Amazon listing for the Kindle version of Unlimited Memory by TCK Publishing client Kevin Horsley.

It looks just like every other book listing on Amazon.
All you have to do to find out how many Kindle eBook or Print copies it’s selling currently is scroll down the book’s page on Amazon to the “Product Details” section.

Underneath Product Details, look for the section that says “Amazon Best Sellers Rank.” In the screenshot above, you can see it says “#139 Paid in Kindle Store.”
Now, there are a few things you should know about this Amazon Best Sellers Rank.
First, notice it says “Paid.” If it said “#139 Free in Kindle Store,” that would mean the Kindle version of the book was currently free (like during a KDP Select 5-Day Free Promotion Campaign).
It also says “in Kindle Store.” If you’re looking at a print edition of a book on Amazon, it will say “in Books.”
Now that you have the Amazon Bestseller Rank for the book, all you have to do is type it into the Amazon Kindle Sales Calculator above.
If you want to find out how many print copies the book is selling, just click the Paperback or Hardcover edition of the book on Amazon, scroll down to Product Details on that page, and find the Amazon Best Sellers Rank for the print edition. Then just copy and paste that number into the Amazon Book Sales Calculator above, make sure to select “Book” instead of “eBook” for the book type, and click “Calculate Sales.”
How Our Amazon Book Sales Calculator Works
You can use this handy Book Sales Calculator to give you an extremely accurate estimation of how many copies are being sold on Amazon for any eBook or print book (we’re working on audiobook sales estimations as we speak).
Unlike most other Kindle Sales Calculators out there, this one is incredibly accurate with only a 6% error rate. That means if it shows an estimate of 1,000 sales, the actual sales will fall somewhere between 940 and 1,060 sales. By contrast, many other Kindle sales calculators we’ve tested have a 50-100% error rate.
Notice the Amazon Book Sales Calculator tells you how many sales you need to hit in EITHER one day OR one month to hit a certain bestseller ranking. We use “The Rule of 15” which means if you take the monthly sales needed to hit a certain bestseller ranking, all you have to do is divide that monthly sales number by 15 to calculate how many sales you need in one day (24 hours) to achieve that same sales ranking.
The Rule of 15 works because Amazon’s algorithm for sales rankings more heavily weights recent sales. That means 10 sales in the last hour will boost your sales ranking faster than getting 10 sales in the last week.
For example, in order to hit #1,000 Kindle Best Sellers Ranking, your book either needs to sell 2,778 copies over a 30-day time period OR sell just 185 copies in a single 24-hour period (even if it is a brand new book with no previous sales).
Sales Per Month vs. One Day Sales
Sales per month will give you the number of sales you must maintain every 30 days to maintain that sales ranking.
One day sales will give you the number of sales you must get in one 24-hour period to hit that ranking for a very short period of time.

How to Use Amazon Sales Rank Data
There are a lot of ways you can use this sales rank data to help if you’re an author or publisher. First, you can check out the competition and see how many books they’re selling.
Once you’ve done that, you can see how many copies you need to sell either in a one day or one month time period in order to outrank the competition. If you’re planning a book launch or promotion, this data can help you predict how high your book will rank on Amazon and if you can hit #1 in your bestseller categories on Amazon.
You can also use this data for market research to get a good idea how big a niche or market is before you invest the time writing, publishing and marketing a book in that market. For example, if you notice all your competitors in a market aren’t selling more than 100 eBook copies per month on Amazon Kindle, you can be pretty sure your book won’t be selling more than 100 eBook copies per month on Kindle unless your book is a lot better than the competition, is more appealing to the market, and you have a better marketing strategy than the competition.
A Note on Kindle Sales Ranking Adjustments KDP Select Ebooks
If your eBook is enrolled in KDP Select and selling well on Amazon (Above 50,000 Best Seller Ranking or so), you may think the sales calculator is overestimating your monthly sales, but something else is going on!
When Amazon customers borrow your eBook through Kindle Unlimited (KU) or the Kindle Owner’s Lending Library (KOLL), Amazon counts the number of pages those customers read from your book and counts them as sales in order to calculate your Kindle Best Seller Ranking.
Based on our data from a few hundred books enrolled in KDP Select, Amazon will count 1 sale in order to calculate your Kindle Best Seller Ranking every time the KENP (Kindle Edition Normalized Pages) Read reaches about 65% of the total estimated page count of your Kindle eBook.
In other words, if your Kindle eBook is 100 pages long, every 65 KENP (Kindle Edition Normalized Pages) Read in your KDP Reports will count as 1 sale in order for Amazon to calculate your Kindle Best Seller Ranking.
For publishers who use KDP Select, having a lot of readers borrow your book through KOLL or KU can dramatically increase your sales rankings on Amazon (assuming they actually read it!).
How to Tell if Your Publisher is Reporting Book Sales Accurately
When we originally created this Amazon book sales calculator, we did so with the self-published author in mind. However, I have since heard from several authors whose books were published by a traditional or independent publisher who are now using the calculator as a guideline to make sure the royalty reports from their publishers are accurate.
Please realize that we cannot guarantee the Amazon book sales calculator as a tool to help you prevent publishers from providing inaccurate royalty statements. In many cases, your publisher will have distribution for your eBook and print books beyond Amazon, and our calculator will not help you at all when it comes to book sales outside of Amazon.com.
Also note that Amazon has several stores where readers can purchase Kindle eBooks and physical books including Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.de, Amazon.fr, Amazon.es, Amazon.it, Amazon.co.jp, Amazon.ca, Amazon.com.br, Amazon.com.mx, Amazon.com.au, and Amazon.in. Our calculator will currently only help you calculate sales on Amazon.com, and will not help you account for sales in these other markets.

Does this also give accurate numbers for free books as well?
Hi Jim, I believe it does, since it’s dealing with rankings/sales and not actual dollar amounts
This is a great tool but it’s telling me a much higher monthly sales number than I actually have on KDP reports. Is there a reason for this?
Hi Jenny, thanks for your comment. It could be a number of factors, including the fact that this tool is designed to provide an estimate. But there have also been instances of amazon underreporting sales, which you can read more about here.
Argh! A great tool, but yesterday Amazon.com removed the Best Seller Rank of printed books! They replaced the “Product details” with “Product information Technical details” which does NOT show the BSR.
Please ask everyone to sign and share a petition asking Amazon to bring back the BSR: https://www.change.org/p/bring-back-best-sellers-rank-for-amazon-com-print-books
@Max Anderson I am not seing that. I still see that BSR is listed.
I tried the calculation and it is great. Hope it will give me accurate figures when i use it next time to check how my books are doing in the Kindle store.
that’s great Chris, we’re glad you find it helpful! :)
This has been such an exasperating experience. I tried numerous times pasting in without comas, the requested info to find out how many copies of the book sold – and even though I was scrupulous about those commas, I still couldn’t get a response. Nor was there a response when I asked about adding my name to the book online.
Hi Nina, sorry you’re experiencing difficulties. Check that there are also no spaces when you enter numbers in the calculator. As for your second question, I’m not sure what you mean by adding your name?
Just type – not paste!
What equation is being used to be plugged into the calculator
Hi Devika, I’m not sure of the exact equation, but I can find out for you. I know it takes the monthly sales needed to hit a certain bestseller ranking and divides that by 15 to calculate how many sales you need in one day to achieve that same sales ranking.
Very nice tool here Tom, just discovered it today. It’s amazing.
Glad you found it helpful, Gary! :)

Your calculator shows my book selling more than is reported to me.
Hi Susan, thanks for your comment. It could be a number of factors, including the fact that this tool is designed to provide an estimate. But there have also been instances of amazon underreporting sales, which you can read more about here.
Do you know whether sales of used copies affect a books sales rank on Amazon?
Hi Stan, yes I’m pretty sure used copies affect sales rank!
Is the calculator only suitable on Amazon.com?
How about Amazon.co.uk or another Amazon marketplace?
Hi Ping, as of now, the calculator only works for Amazon.com.
Hi Tom. I had a book published by Amazon KDP late 2018. A small christmas book. The first year I received a small amount of royalties. As it was a Christmas book, I did not check in on it until late the following year. Unfortunately, due to lack of use, my KDP email associated with my book was deleted. Now I am not getting any royalties, and can not even find out my sales due to not being able to login. I have contacted Amazon, and they say its KDP. KDP are sending me back to Amazon. This is really frustrating as it appears by this sales calculator that I have sold some books, however small. Would you be able to give me any advice on how to sort this problem out? Any help would be good. Thanks. Phil.
Hi Philip, thanks for your comment! I would suggest trying to reach KDP support by phone and insist that you need your account reactivated or a new one, since it sounds like it’s a KDP problem. The number should be 1-888-280-4331
Hi Tom,
I just started using your amazon book sales calculator and I can’t stop loving it already, it’s da bomb!!!
We’re so glad you’re enjoying it, Wilson!
QUESTION: The estimated daily sales and monthly sales don’t match. Why?… If you take the daily sales X 30 you get about double what the calc says the monthly sales are.
Hi Bart! Sales per month will give you the number of sales you must maintain every 30 days to maintain that sales ranking. One-day sales will give you the number of sales you must get in one 24-hour period to hit that ranking for a very short period of time.
Hi Tom. I’m published in the UK so i hope you’ll come up with a tool for the UK too.
I wonder if you know how the BSR works in general.
For instance my book goes from 300000 to 36000 from morning to evening and then gradually loses steam again. What makes these big swings happen?
Thanks
Hi Paolo, it might have something to do with the fact that Amazon’s algorithm for sales rankings gives more weight to recent sales (so 10 sales in the last hour will boost your sales ranking faster than getting 10 sales in the last week) which might cause it fluctuate day to day or even within the same day
If it is consistently high on the weekends, I think it most likely that the Americans are buying/reading from UK’s10 pm through 6 am (5 pm in New York to 10 pm in California). Also Japan’s huge market of readers are off work from 8 am-1 pm UK. I’m not sure if the the populous parts of Russia and Europe have bought into Kindle, leaving you only the British market in the afternoon.
Dear Amazon: for quite some years my book title “Asesinato en La Casa de los diamantes” as been on sale thru Amazon web page until today I have no idea of how many books I sold, Regards, Charles Kane from San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Hi Charles, you can see sales reports from your sales dashboard in KDP, or if you have any ranking information, you can use this calculator tool for an estimate.
This calculator does not seem to factor in how new a book is. As the KDP website explains:
“The ranking for books with consistent activity histories that have been available on Amazon for a long time may fluctuate less than the ranking of new books, or books whose histories aren’t as stable.”
This means a brand new book won’t need as many sales to move up the rankings as a book that was published a long time ago.
Without knowing the extent to which new books are favoured, it’s surely impossible to say with any certainty how many copies it has sold in any given period of time?
Hi Jonno, not sure if this answers your question but the article does say that “The Rule of 15 works because Amazon’s algorithm for sales rankings more heavily weights recent sales. That means 10 sales in the last hour will boost your sales ranking faster than getting 10 sales in the last week”
hi ..
how can i fix this ” please match the request format “
Hi Kazim, make sure you’re not including commas or spaces
Does this work in Amazon Australia?
Do I use the figure in the main book sales or the sub category the book is listed in?
For example this is our book;
81,643 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)
258 in New Business Enterprises (Books)
Thanks in advance
Hi Sophie, the calculator only works for Amazon US.
It would be helpful if you could expand the calculator’s coverage to other Anglophone countries – UK, Australia and Canada.
Hi Ted, yes we hope to do that soon! :)
Hi Tom, I am wondering if I am doing something wrong? My eBook and paperback book called Practical Female Psychology for the Practical man currently ranks 180,557 in Kindle and 290,548 in Amazon books. According to your calculator that gives me an estimate of 18 Kindle and 17 books per month.
However, currently this month so far I have sold 58 kindle and 32 books. This is on pace to be with what I’ve done consistently over the past year: about 100-120 kindle and 60-70 books.
hi Tom, If I use your links, where is the incognito tab ? plus is this free, also is it the same as the one suggested, to purchase in sleek lesson 1
I’m sorry but I don’t understand either of your questions. This calculator is free to use
I have an ISBN-13978163073592, that they say can tell how many books if any sold. I don’t know what site to go.
Hi Judy, I’m not really sure. I’ve read that there are paid online services where you can use the ISBN to find sales info. Have you tried using our calculator?
when I input my ranking (37394 for my physical book), I get results that say 119 a month or 8 per day. If I multiple the monthly number by 12 I get an annual of 1,428, but if I multiply the daily ranking of 8 by 365 I get 2,920 or almost twice as many copies. Why is this
Sales per month will give you the number of sales you must maintain every 30 days to maintain that sales ranking.
One day sales will give you the number of sales you must get in one 24-hour period to hit that ranking for a very short period of time.
Hi
‘Enter BSR’ it says.
Errr… which one?
The Amazon entry for the book I’m interested in gives 2 –
“12,173,931 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)”
and
“396,760 in Mysteries (Books)”
I’ve tried both, and needless to say, the results given are considerably different!
Tnx.
You use the BSR for books or Kindle store
Hi. Are you saying the category ranking is irrelevant then?
The one that says “in Books” 12,173,931 but you need to enter it without commas
Where is amazon supposed to deposit the revenue from my book sales?Couldn’t that also be an indicator of how well I am doing?
When I find my book on Amazon, it tells me the following verbatim:
#1,773,114 in Kindle store (see top 100 in Kindle Store)
#4,337 in political fiction (kindle store)
#9,106 in political fiction books
#59,077 in historical fiction (Kindle Store)
Hi Jemil, yes, of course your royalty payments can be another indicator of how well you’re doing. We have a post on how Amazon pays royalties that you might find helpful
Hi Tom,
My guitar book came out in 2019 and thankfully It is sold through all the main outlets and bookstores around the world. I was looking at your Amazon book sales calculator and wondered if you could help please. In the rank under best sellers it says In guitars so I put in 2654 and it comes out at 1075 per month, day sales 72. In the section string instruments 2994 it says 980 per month and one day sales 65. Are these sales added together and how do I calculate back to September 2019.
Hey Steve,
Make sure you read the whole post because it explains how it all works. You need to use your overall rank in either the Kindle Store or the Book Store to calculate sales correctly, not your rank within a certain category like Guitars.
You don’t add the sales together. You either need to hit the monthly or daily sales number to achieve that given sales rank.
Can you do that to audiobooks as well who are sold on amazon?
Hi Gabriel, at the moment this calculator works just for print and ebook sales.
Hi dear. How I know how much Amazon is paying for every page readed on KDP this month, until now I have 1000 page readed?
Hi Alejandro, I think you should be able to see this on your Sales Dashboard report. You can see your Month-To-Date Unit Sales Report (the number of pages Kindle Unlimited customers read of your eBooks) under the “Kindle Edition Normalized Pages (KENP) Read” column.
In fact, my numbers for a lsell have decreased by 40% in 2 days. How is it possible when amazon announced it probably only on 03 December, 2020? Let me ask again, does this cover the number of books pre-ordered in India.
Hi Dr. Abhas,
This calculator works for eBooks and print books in the US. It doesn’t work for sales in India on Amazon.in.
First of all, thanks for this useful site. Does it cover sales in India too. Amazon India announced my book on 03 December 2020. I found, the total monthly sale was 336. But today I find a lower number!
Hi Dr. Mitra, at the moment this calculator only works for U.S. sales.
Dear Kaelyn,
Thank you very much for the response. But as of now, Amazon India has announced only Hardcover version. No preorder for paperback or Kindle edition yet. Though it is announced on MacMillan international too, I wonder if so many orders emanated from US. If true, I will be happy.
Hi, when I look at our book’s product details, there is no information about sales or ranking, the last line just says Lending: not enabled. What’s up?
So, My book looks like the sales would be 46 a month on the Best Seller Rank.
However, my rank is higher in the category, and my sales would be 715 a month. Does that mean the sales are 715 or 46 a month?
Hi Lea Ann, I’m not really sure what you mean. Maybe can you copy/paste exactly the rankings you’re seeing on Amazon and in which categories?
When i type in the numbers 1163188 the Calculator continuously says “Please use the required format”?
Make sure you remove commas or extra characters or spaces and it’ll work!
First, thanks for this service. It will be helpful. How come, when I type in the BSR, no commas or spaces. it tells me to match the format? Sorry, I’m not all that tech savvy. Thanks.
I’m guessing there’s an extra space in there that you missed. It seems to be working if you don’t include commas, spaces, or extra characters.
Hi, this tool is awesome!!
I just wanted to ask though, is this updated regularly?? Thanks!!
Hi Susan,
Yes, we do our best to keep it updated and accurate!
Maybe this calculator will work for me. Thank you.
You’re welcome! :)
I cannot find how to actually download the calculator. Please provide a link.
Hi Isabel, it’s actually not necessary to download, you should see the calculator after the first two paragraphs. All you have to do is enter your information. Please let me know if it’s not appearing for you
Hello is the book sale calculator for Amazon.com? I am UK based, so obviously our markets are massively different.
Hi Jodey, thanks for your comment! Yes, our calculator currently only works for Amazon.com
Do you have a BSR Calculator for books on Amazon Australia?
Hi Ian, at the moment we only have this calculator that works just for for the U.S.
Sorry, but this calculator is grotesquely wrong. At its worst rank this month, one of my books was at 15,000 BSR. Yet, at that rank, this tool says that I should have 18 sales a day. It’s nowhere near that (more like 3-6).
Hi Tank,
Make sure you read the whole post about how the calculator works and how Amazon’s sales rank algorithm works. It also takes into account KENP / borrows from the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library.
Nice tool, thanks for providing that.
I have a question on the data: does this tool only work for the .com or also for the other Amazon KDP countries?
It only works for Amazon.com for eBooks and print books.
Does this work on Amazon.uk
Hi KC, currently the calculator only works for amazon.com.
How do you account for a specific rank in a category? For example, I was #3 yesterday in one category and 65 in another?
Hi Jordan,
All rankings are relative to other books in the store. So, if your book is #3 in a category, that means two books are listed in that category that currently have more sales than your book.
In the other category, there are 64 books that are currently selling more than your book.
This calculator does not tell you what your ranking will be in any category (bestsellerrankingpro.com will though). This calculator simply tells you how many copies of your book you will sell at any given sales rank in all of the Kindle or Book stores on Amazon.com (or how many copies you need to sell to achieve a certain overall Kindle / Book store sales rank).
I hope that helps!
How does this work if you are checking your rank in different countries to the US? I’m based in the UK and my chart position is higher there, whereas in the US it’s probably half of that. Not sure why as I think every country has access to the exact same ebooks.
Hi Gee,
This calculator only works for the US for eBooks and print books.
We do track all the categories and bestseller rankings in the UK at bestsellerrankingpro.com
I don’t think your calculator is correct. I’m with a traditional publisher, a picture book, and keep track of my sales rank, with your calculator I’d sell 300 a month when I’m actually selling 650 a month.
Hi Jill,
Thanks for your feedback!
The calculator is not 100% accurate because we don’t have access to all of Amazon’s sales, however it seems to be pretty darn close in most cases. Maybe your publisher is selling books outside of Amazon? I’m guessing that’s why you see a big difference in your # of copies sold because your publisher probably has other retailers selling copies of your book.
I need to get my Manuscript published. However I have had 3 Publishers wanting to publish my 15,000 word story for a considerable fee. I am awaiting two further Publishers having uploaded on line.
Would appreciate any helpful comments
Hi Julie, have you considered self-publishing? You can read more about its differences from traditional publishing here: https://www.tckpublishing.com/traditional-publishing-vs-self-publishing/. But I know it’s not for everyone. Many smaller publishers, including TCK, don’t charge any fees. You can check out our submission guidelines here: https://www.tckpublishing.com/submission-guidelines/ Please let me know if there are any questions I can answer for you :)
BEWARE of publishers who demand fees. 15,000 words is a long article and not a book. Check Amazon for self-publishing.
This is awesome and matches up with my sale statistics in Advantage. Thank you so much for this tool. Now I don’t have to waste time doing guess work figuring out what the sales potential is for different topics.
Hey Jeremy,
I’m glad you’re loving the Amazon Book Sales Calculator! It’s really accurate because we modeled Amazon’s sales rank algorithm and have a ton of book sales data to draw from.
Sounds like you’re using it for market research which is awesome :)
My e-book is ranking under 100,000 at 78,012 as of today but I can’t figure out why it’s on like page 10 when I do a search on my primary keyword. Any ideas? I am starting to think that where your book falls on the initial search term is not as important as the actual BSR number.
Keyword rankings are totally separate from Amazon sales rankings. If you want your book to rank higher for your specific keywords, increasing your sales can help, but you can also improve your keyword rankings on Amazon by adding the keywords in your book title, subtitle, book description, keyword tags in KDP or CreateSpace, and having readers write those keywords in book reviews for the book.
Hope that helps!
